In this week’s look, I’m showing off my most recent make. A Chanel inspired lemon yellow skirt to brighten up the day!
I have talked here before about one of my favorite trends this season, yellow! Some months ago I really didn’t have any yellow pieces. Like I said back then, yellow is not the easiest color to wear, and I’ve only recently started to seriously add color to my wardrobe so I just had not made it to yellow, yet.
I was inspired by many lovely pieces I encountered in my favorite stores (see my selection here) and decided to give it a try. It all started with preparing for my little summer break in Portugal when I fully embraced yellow in this handmade sundress ( you can find the DIY tutorial here). While that little off-the-shoulder dress was a success, it is more of a beachwear piece, a light, and charming summer dress that you can throw on over your bikini when you head for a beach day.
A more wearable piece is this classic skirt. When I first saw the pattern (you can find it here) I knew I wanted to make it in tweed fabric to capture that ‘Chanel’ look this classic design deserves. That’s when I found this yellow tweed and I immediately loved the idea of a lemon yellow skirt!

A lemon yellow skirt is not a wardrobe staple, I’m aware of that. But our wardrobes don’t need to be built only out of essentials. There would be no fun at all if we just go out in black cigarette trousers and classic trench coats every day. Perhaps indeed a lemon yellow skirt is an essential after all! Essential to break the routine, get out of your comfort zone and enjoy the summer in the brightest and sunniest color of all! Convinced? ;)
A detailed step-by-step of the making of this skirt is also available, including how I found these original Chanel vintage buttons! So if you’re a sewing enthusiast (or if you’re just curious) have a look here!
Have a lovely week!

Cátia

All I need to make me happy is a cute yellow dress or skirt. I love how your skirt really pops against that white blouse. Those shoes are also killer. Cute outfit!

Yes, it surely is a difficult colour to style. I only have a few yellow items that I hardly wear and some shoes. I think it really does go well with white and neutral colours. You’ve styled the skirt pretty well. Love the white shirt, too!

Thank you, Ankita! I had the same problems with yellow, but I’m coming to good terms with it. And it’s such a positive color, don’t you think? :)
