Pink on pink | How to wear culottes

This week I’m wearing culottes and combining three shades of pink in the same outfit. Have I gone mad? Maybe. But I love it! Here’s how to wear culottes this summer. Have a look!

Culottes (or palazzo pants) are one of those trends that take a while to settle in. These loose cropped trousers are everywhere this summer! You probably spot them already at your favorite store and may have seen them invading your Instagram feed. Even sewists are taking this trend very seriously! I see everyone proudly wearing their own made culottes lately. And while you may pull them out first and wonder ‘What am I supposed to do with this?’, culottes have a lot of potential!

I find culottes most flattering in lightweight fabrics, particularly for the summer. Some say culottes can’t be paired with flats. I disagree. Culottes are extremely comfortable and I love to pair mine with comfortable shoes in a hot summer day while strolling through the city. I’ve also worn them with sneakers for a long bike ride. It is true though that culottes, specially tailored culottes, are incredibly versatile. When paired with heels they look very classy and sophisticated. Anything from a work meeting to even attending a wedding, they’re that good!

The culottes I’m wearing are a beautiful shade of pink. And you know what’s better than a beautiful shade of pink? That’s right, three beautiful shades of pink! Pink on pink is something you can easily pull off this summer. Or yellow on yellow, green on green, blue on blue. I really like prints for the summer (especially floral prints) but a color block outfit with different shades of the same color can be as interesting and is very fun to wear!

As for handmade clothes, I haven’t got much free time to sew these days so my progress is very slow. But I just finished a summer skirt and I can’t wait to show it to you! I’m also working on an amazing DIY tutorial involving all things off-the-shoulder so stay tuned. I’m hoping to get that out as soon as possible. I know it’s summer already and I really want you to be able to make your own for this season. It’s a really fast make, so I think it will work! Last summer I made the pink one I’m wearing in this look and I’ve also made a slightly different blue one (last seen here). I’m now working on another couple of colors and styles!

Anyone sewing or wearing culottes this summer? Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely week!

  1. aww very such lovely shades of pink! It makes you look cheerful and Summery.
I do love a good pair of culottes and they’re easier to style than most people think.
I usually think of them as A-line skirt. One that can be styled in many ways such as (tucking in a blouse, for example, or choosing a high-waist pair and adding a crop top), and I tend to stick to basic colors like black, navy, and off-white.
Good on you for sewing your own clothes! I’ve just gotten myself a brother sewing machine and it just does wonders!

    Thanks for the share :)
