It’s finally here. The winter cape I started last year is ready at last! In the end, I decided to go for a navy inspired finish and I’m not disappointed at my choice. Take a look!

In the winter whatever we use as an outer layer will ultimately be the key piece of an outfit. We mostly walk outside wrapped in a winter coat and sometimes I feel that over the long months of cold weather we endure in this country, a minimal winter coat may become a bit of a dull piece. So having an interesting extra piece in your wardrobe is essential for special occasions or when you really want to wear something else than your everyday ‘keep me warm’ coat. For this, capes are great! Easy to wear, capes add an instant chic touch to your look. You can go for a neutral color or for a more embellished piece, the cape silhouette is in any case incredibly flattering and elegant and is excellent for layering.
Whether driven by our urgent need for peace or by the constant unsettling feeling of war, the military trend is all around you this season – did you notice? I adopted this trend by creating a navy inspired cape, with gold embellishments contrasting with the dark blue. Feminine, elegant and looking very much high-fashion, this has to be one of my favorite ‘makes’ since I started sewing!
To complete the look I fell in love with these dark blue boots, that looked too much of a perfect match for the cape to let go. And this is how blue slowly is making it into my wardrobe!
Let me know what you think! I really hope this inspired you and later in the week I will have a post solely dedicated to the making of the cape (pattern, alterations, etc). So if you’re a sewing enthusiast stay tuned. You all have a lovely week!

Catia

Very beautiful coat! You really upgraded it. Looks very expensive. Im Going to make this Cape too but im thinking about doing something about the raw edges. Not very fond of raw edges. I wonder if its possible to make this reversibel as well.maybe on color on one side and a second on the other side. Will it work you think?
